Partners and Collaborators
Howard Hughes Medical Institute ... HHMI funds training and travel for the SEA-PHAGES program, which facilitates undergraduates isolating, purifying and sequencing the genomes of mycobacteriaphage. I implemented this program in my Bio 100 course in 2014 at U Maine-Fort Kent.
Corporacion Nacional Forestal de Chile ... CONAF manages the National Parks and Reserves in Chile. They processed our permits for collecting and research in all the public protected areas we visited in 2006, 2008 and 2012.
Centro de Investigación en Ecosistemas de la Patagonia ... CIEP does research on many aspects of Patagonian ecosystems. We collaborated on a pilot study in P.N. Queulat in 2008 and they provided logistical support during that portion of our trip.
Herbario Departamento de Botánica- Universidad de Concepción ... Specimens of many of the Chilean lichens collected as a part of the Lichens of the Valdivian rainforest are deposited here. They helped us with the export of our specimens in 2008 and 2012.
Parque Pumalin ... Private park in southcentral Chile where we made many lichen collections. They gave us logistical support in 2006.
Senda Darwin ... Private reserve on the island of Chiloe where we made some collections in 2006. They provided us lodging during our time there.
La Reserva Costera Valdiviana ... Private coastal reserve ran by the Nature Conservancy and World Wildlife Fund with the last of the coastal Alerce (Fitzroya cupressoides) populations. We made extensive collections in this reserve in 2008 and received lodging and logistical support from their staff.
Gates of the Arctic National Park & Preserve ... National Park straddling the Brooks range in northcentral Alaska where I did a lichen monitoring study in 2012.
Oregon State University Herbarium ... Institutional endorser of our Chile lichen project that allowed us to get permits from CONAF. Duplicates of many specimens from that project are also deposited here.
Chilebosque ... Online botanical resource for Chile which includes some photos from the Lichens of the Valdivian Rainforest project.
SPRUCE ... I installed lichen transplants and community monitoring plots in a large scale, long term climate change experiment called "Spruce and Peatland Responses Under Climatic and Environmental Change" or SPRUCE located on the Marcell Experimental Forest.
Tim Wheeler ... my long time friend and collaborator, an expert in mushrooms, saxicolous lichens and photography.
